I think it’s safe to say that visiting Machu Picchu in Peru is probably on most people’s bucket list. Earlier this month, I got the opportunity to visit the “lost city” and it was everything (and more) that I thought it would be. We did the 5 day, 44.4 mile Salkantay Trail, which was a lot more difficult than any of us had anticipated. However challenging, both physical and mental, it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! The beauty of Machu Picchu is apparent, even more so in person, but what was just as rewarding was the experience of just getting there! Along the way, we went through what seemed like every season and weather Mother Nature could offer. Our scenery was constantly changing; we were always greeted with something beautiful and majestic at almost every turn!
They say a picture can speak a thousand words, and some of the pictures below do, but to truly experience the wonder that is Machu Picchu, you have to see it in person. If it’s on your list (or even if it’s not), make sure you find a way to get there someday. You’ll be happy you did.
